an issue devoted to racial equity

When I planned the 2019 editorial calendar, I chose to dedicate an entire issue to the subject of racial equity — or rather, racial inequity — in business, our economy and society, and the world at large. When the time came to start assigning stories, I encountered some major imposter syndrome. How was I, a white Millennial with a music degree, going to do this topic any sort of justice? What gaps in my consciousness were going to be glaringly obvious to more enlightened readers? Thankfully, inspired by numerous stories of accountability’s role in conscious leadership, I admitted my shortcomings from the start and reached out to the Intentional Media team and communities of color to recruit top-notch minds to serve as my advisory board of sorts. The result is an issue that definitely doesn’t end the conversation — but certainly starts one.

Issue 22, the Q2/Spring 2019 edition of Conscious Company, focuses on people of color in the conscious business space, from founders of incredible mission-driven companies to business leaders asking pivotal questions about (and providing leading-edge solutions to) the racial wealth gap, white privilege, and factors for optimal business performance. In addition to the inaugural list of Game-Changing Founders of Color, this issue explore inquiries like, How can we close the racial wealth gap?, Why are some people so resistant to inclusion?, Can investment capital end racism?, and Are refugees and migrants the future of the global workforce?
